About The Social Traveler

Hi and welcome to my blog.

Let me start by introducing myself.

My name is +Bjorn Troch. I'm a social guy from Belgium with a big smile and 3 passions: People, Travel and Social Media. January 2010 I decided to combine my passions and started a unique social travel project around the world.

My Mission: Social around the world

Social online and in real life

Everything that happens on my travels needs to be social and connected to a person. This means for example no guidebooks or search for travel information online. It's all about talking to people online via social networks and of course with the people around me in real life.

People shape the adventure as it happens by guiding me to their favorite places, joining me for some time on my travels, meeting me along the way or by inviting me into their homes and life.

The Trajectory

The only thing that is fixed on my travels is the route, trajectory that I follow.

It starts on Camino de Santiago in Spain and I followed it through Europe, Asia and Oceania. Currently I'm having a break from traveling and decided to live and be Social in Berlin.

The next part of my trajectory will take me through North and South America, North Asia, The Middle East and Africa to finally end up again in Spain where this adventure ends where it started, on Camino de Santiago.

Have closer look.

Social Travel Challenges

On my travels I let friends and followers give me challenges and tackle them together with them.

My first challenge was to hike 900 km through the North of Spain on Camino de Santiago which is also where this social travel adventure will end. In India I got challenged to travel the South of the country on a Royal Enfield, in New Zealand I had to hitch-hike my way around the country and in Australia I had to stay sober for 40 days. The last big challenge I tackled was cycling a tandem bike from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong, along the way I people joined me on the bike. Some for a day others for weeks.

There are other challenges lined up for me along my trajectory and I hope to tackle them together with you.

Discover past and future challenges here.

Social Travel for Charity

Since my tandem challenge I added a 3rd social layer to this project: Social Good.

The community started growing bigger so I thought why not try and do something meaningful with this project. I asked the community to point me into the direction of some small charity projects that don't have much reach or means. They did and by now I visited 4 small projects and together with the community I try to help raise awareness and money for them.

Be part of the Adventure

Everything that happens on my travels is influenced by friends and followers. They shape the adventure as it happens. You are of course welcome to be part of this adventure as well. Just connect and guide, meet, invite or challenge me on this social journey around the world ;-)

Giving back

People have been giving me tips, introducing me to their friends and life, offered me places to stay and helped me out in a gazillion ways. It's of course only logical that I want to give back.

I do this by sharing recommendations I got on social travel maps of the countries and cities I visited, by connecting people from the community with each other in places they live or visit and by trying to realize dreams of friends and followers that hosted me, significantly helped me out or joined me on one of my social challenges.

Be Social

Explore

Dive into a world of social adventure and explore the people I met, their and our stories, the places I met them and where they guided me to, the pictures and videos we took, the events we organized and the music they love. Discover my learnings and tips in life, travel and being social around the world.

Support

None of this would be possible without the support of you and other friends & followers.

Now if you like what you've read so far and want to support me as well then the easiest way to do so is to introduce me to your friends via one of your favo social networks.

If you own a company or work in online marketing you might be interested in becoming part of this adventure with your company or brand by claiming a part of the adventure or if you struggle with tackling online or social marketing then I'd love to help you out as a consultant.

You can also support me by making your or a your friends life a bit more social by buying something from my social shop. The products are great icebreakers and will boost your social life. They've been tested :-)

A big thank your for everybody believing in this project and of course the support, small or big.
