a Lusatian Lakeland cycling adventure (Lausitzer seenland)

Lausitzer seenland aka Lusatian Lakeland cycling

This is what I loved about tackling Destination Challenges in Germany! One day I was seed bombing Berlin and the next I found myself in the heart of the 'Lusatian lakeland' in the very South East of Brandenburg.

Talking about a contrast!

I first arrived at the Marina camping by the Senftenberger See (Lake) where I immediately was welcomed for some morning SUPping. I can tell you that it woke me right up... ;-)

This time I actually managed to stand UP and paddle around for a bit. I wasn't so successful at Soro lake in Denmark remeber ? :-)

What's really cool about the lakes here is that they are artificially created. They are basically old coal mines that were flooded. The goal is to create the biggest interconnected lake area in Europe!

After a bit of splishing and splashing around I jumped on my rental bike for a 20 km cycling adventure around Senftenberger & Geierswalder See (Lake).

The Destination Challenge I got from Lausitzer Seenland was to discover a bunch of landmarks that I had to find along my cycling trail.

That went a little something like this...

Los geht's!

The first landmark that I encountered was the view point tower of Senftenberger lake.

At some point I reached the beach and my alter ego 'Mini B' enjoyed some chilled time at the beach. ;-)

From there I found the pump that pumped water from the 'Black Elster' river into the mine that would become the Senftenberger lake.

Not much further I found the brand new Senftenberger lake harbour with a sharp, modern and functional design. Pretty coooool!

But I was in for some more architectural design finds! My next stop was the 'Rostiger Nagel' which translates to 'Rusty Nail'. I don't think I need to explain that one.

Absolutely loved the design and how they build in the stairs of this hyper modern viewpoint tower.

Enjoyed a cheeky beer at the Rusty Nail (Rostiger Nagel) :-)

From the top you have a great view over Sedlitzer lake as you can see below.

The architecture porn didn't stop though! I continued following the Geierswalder see and bumped into the gem below. The floating houses aka Lausitz resort. Love love love the design and some of them are for rent during the Summer months ;-)

At the floating houses I also had a little mission to complete. I had to cannon ball myself into the lake from the pier. Yup, I did that and I can tell you that it wasn't that warm that day at all... :-D

The last landmark I encountered on my Lausitzer seenland cycling adventure was a hyper modern canal lock that brings holiday boats back on forth from Geierswalder Lake to Senftenberger Lake

Back at the Senftenberger see Hafencamp I treated myself to a well deserved ice cream after a day filled with beautiful architecture and nature.
